TORT REFORM: WHAT’S HAPPENING IN THE COURTS?

DEC 19, 2013 Registration 2:00p.m. | Seminar 2:30 - 4:45 p.m. 2.0 CLE Hours Register

WHO SHOULD ATTEND: Attorneys who handle tort cases for plaintiffs or defendants

OVERVIEW:  During the last five years, the Tennessee General Assembly has been in the forefront of the national tort reform movement. In 2008 and 2009, we witnessed the enactment of medical liability reform legislation, and 2011, we saw the passage of a much broader tort reform bill.

The Tennessee appellate courts have now begun to interpret these new laws and to create a body of case law that tort law practitioners must become familiar with.

The NBA is privileged to have one of Tennessee’s preeminent tort lawyers, John A. Day, as a speaker on this important topic. John is the author of Day on Torts and Compendium of Tennessee Tort Reform Statutes and Related Case Law, 2008-2013 (2d. 2013).

Copies of John’s Compendium will be made available to attendees at this seminar.

You Will Benefit Knowing:
1. The range of tort reform statutes enacted in the last five years.
2. The state and federal case law interpreting those statutes.
3. Additional changes being discussed for the 2014 legislative session.
